King Henry IV Part 2 edition by William Shakespeare Reference eBooks
I got my introduction to Shakespeare via Julius Caesar, Richard III and MacBeth. Can't put them down, page turning wonders filled with incredible "... he bestrides the world like a colossus" dialogue.Henry Part I and Part II? Not so much.
I freak out over history and, when I originally read Henry IV years ago, was anticipating that they would be a similar telling of the English Wars of Succession. What I got was a skeleton structure wrapped in the farce of Falstaff, Pistol, et. al. I re-ordered them hoping that I was now mature enough to appreciate their deeper, subtle structure. Unfortunately, I was right the first time.
If you want to read them for amusement (and there is plenty of this) first watch some of the old Robert Newton movies (Treasure Island is a great place to start) and then visualize his cadence and gestures as you plow through the endless speeches.
If you don't have time for this, start with Richard II, skip the two Henry IV parts (spoiler alert: the lazy Prince Hal becomes the king), and jump straight to Henry V.

King Henry IV Part 2 edition by William Shakespeare Reference eBooks Reviews
Delivered as promised.
I ordered both part 1 and part 2.
I have an ipad and received flawlessly.
I use the firefox because it has text to speech.
Act four, scene five, combined with Falstaff's early whit make this a worthy read; however, it falls short of the brilliance of part one.
Format was easy to read on my iPhone. Glad to have finally read Henry IV after watching The Hollow Crown.
This is not one of my favorite plays, but I like to read the play after the PBS "Empty Crown" broadcasts. This is the perfect companion piece to re-experience the play and to study the soliloquies or exchanges between key characters.
This is a fabulous adaptation that puts the story in its historical setting. I recommend watching all 4 plays in "The Hollow Crown," series, from "Richard II" to "Henry V," so you can follows the whole story of Henry IV and his son Henry V. The father-son story is particularly moving and the actors are wonderful. I recommend watching with the subtitles, though, unless you're very comfortable with Shakespearean English.
I am not only witty in myself, but the cause that wit is in other men. -Sir John Falstaff
The prince becomes king and with his newfound status he shirks off his old friends. This is common in human beings and perhaps necessary in greater positions of power and responsibility.
More disjointed than Part 1. The title character rarely appears, and in some ways that’s disappointing because he is without a doubt the finest paragon of virtue in the Henriad. The most important aspect of this play is the development and transformation of Henry the fifth. Falstaff Is also more prominent, and while this makes me an outlier among fans of Shakespeare I think he is a weaker character than many fans of Shakespeare admit.
